Exploring Sustainable Business and Investment Opportunities in Malaysia for Singapore SMEs

Event Introduction:
This event is a collaborative effort between CIMB Singapore and SME Centre@SICCI (SME Centre@Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry) and aims to bring together small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to explore business opportunities and foster economic growth.

CIMB will highlight its role in supporting sustainable financing opportunities, emphasising its commitment to responsible and eco-friendly business practices in Malaysia. They will be exploring existing government incentives and initiatives to boost the sustainability scene in Malaysia and CIMB’s sustainable and green product offerings for SMEs.

The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) will share how they can assist companies to expand their businesses to Malaysia with competitive tax incentives offered by the Malaysian government and the latest business landscape.

The Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) will provide insights on Iskandar Malaysia specifically, offering SMEs valuable information on expanding their operations.

Speakers’ Profiles:

Mr Oscar See, Team Lead, Business Advisory (SME Centre@SICCI)

Oscar, a Team Lead (Business Advisory) with SME Centre@SICCI has had more than 20 years of working experience in the luxury retail business across Southeast Asia.

He has worked for international brands like Jaeger-LeCoultre, Breitling, Miele, American International Assurance, GUESS and Reebok International. Demonstrating a high degree of versatility in the wide spectrum of products and services with the respective brands, he has built a strong network of High-Net-Worth Clientele.

His objective with SME Centre@SICCI is to be able to assist business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs to attain their objectives and goals by rendering sound advice and guidance.

Mr Vinothan Tulisinathzan, Director (MIDA Singapore)

Mr Vinothan Tulisinathzan joined MIDA in 2007 and was attached to Agro-Based Industries Division whereby he was responsible for evaluation of projects for Manufacturing Licence, Incentives and Expatriate posts. Then, he was transferred to Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Division and was responsible for attracting FDIs from Asia Oceania region such as Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia. In 2012, he was posted to MIDA San Jose for five years and played a significant role in promoting investments from Silicon Valley into Malaysia.

From 2017-2021, he served in the Oil & Gas and Maritime Technology and Chemical & Advanced Material Divisions covering the development of Oil & Gas upstream activities and looking after the development of Petrochemicals, Plastics, Chemicals & Chemical Products, Oleo chemicals and Rubber Products Industries respectively. He has been appointed as the Director of MIDA Singapore since January 2022.

He holds a BA (Hons) majoring in Management Information System (MIS) from Tun Abdul Razak University (UNIRAZAK).

Mr Sazali Baharom, Head of Islamic Banking & Sustainability (CIMB Bank)

Sazali Baharom is the Head of Islamic Banking & Sustainability, CIMB Bank Berhad, Singapore Branch. He has 20 years of experience in Islamic Consumer and Wholesale Banking. Amongst his notable accomplishments in CIMB, Sazali was involved in the setting up of Singapore’s 1st S$1 billion Islamic Trust Certificate Programme (Islamic MTN) for one of the largest SGX-listed real estate company. In 2009, he was involved in Singapore’s 1st Corporate Sukuk issue of S$100m for this company. This deal was awarded the Debt Market Deal of the Year by BMW Asia ALB SE Asia Law Awards 2009. Under his leadership, CIMB Bank’s Islamic Banking is the 1st winner of the inaugural Best Islamic Bank 2013 (Singapore) from an international publication, Islamic Finance News.

Mr Prakash Nagarajan, Vice President, Economics & Investment (IRDA)

Mr Prakash Nagarajan has over 18 years of senior management experience in strategic business development, product development and general management experience in Southeast Asia, North America and Canada across varied organisation structures (MNC, GLC & SME). He has diverse international management experience in building and growing business revenue, marketing strategy, human resource management and operational excellence. As a people manager, he has experience in managing teams of staff from multiple cultural backgrounds across Asia and North America.

Mr Azmir Abdullah, Head of Sustainable Finance, Commercial Banking Malaysia (CIMB Bank)
