SME Centre@SICCI Team with Our Partners at the 23 April Facilitating Retailers’ and Services Companies into the Malaysia Market GBU Programme
For many Singapore retailers and service providers, regional expansion has long been an aspiration. Malaysia, with its much larger consumer base, geographical proximity, and strong economic ties to Singapore, is often naturally viewed as the first overseas market to expand into. However, despite their interests, many SMEs struggle to take the first step.
Through SME Centre@SICCI’s earlier internationalisation workshop, hosted in collaboration with the Association of Trade & Commerce (ATC), it was revealed that many SMEs lacked the networks, market knowledge, regulatory understanding, and local partnerships necessary to expand confidently into Malaysia. Business owners were often uncertain about market entry strategies, incorporation requirements, financing options, and how to identify credible on-the-ground partners. Without structured guidance, overseas expansion can be costly, time-consuming, and risky. Thus, the Centre decided to develop a group-based upgrading (GBU) initiative especially designed to tackle these challenges.
Thus, the “Facilitating Retailers’ and Services Companies into the Malaysia Market” programme was developed through a strategic partnership between the SME Centre@SICCI, ATC, and Singapore Business Federation (SBF) through Global Connect@SBF in an effort to bring together a diverse network of industry experts, business advisors, financial institutions, technology providers, and ecosystem partners to provide participating companies with a holistic market entry experience.
Through this programme hosted on 23 April 2026, up to 40 participating companies, including MySingaporeDriver, gained access to expert guidance on market entry strategies, financial readiness assessments, regulatory compliance, intellectual property protection, business incorporation, digitalisation, artificial intelligence (AI) adoption, and funding opportunities. Dedicated business matching sessions also connected SMEs with potential Malaysian partners, distributors, service providers, and industry networks.
Challenges On the Ground for MySingaporeDriver
MySingaporeDriver.com Pte Ltd is a premium, high-touch ground transportation and chauffeur service provider in Singapore. Operating at the intersection of luxury hospitality and strict logistics, it specialises in highly secure, reliable, and discreet transportation. The company serves distinguished clientele such as multinational corporate executives, government entities, royal families, and discerning international travellers who demand flawless execution, privacy, efficiency, as well as a highly versatile fleet of purpose-built vehicles for diverse, high-spec demands.
While the company is largely doing well, business growth has remained stagnant given the competitive nature of the Singapore market. Furthermore, being a local-only transportation provider limits the company’s ability to capitalise on larger opportunities, especially those involving passengers travelling to multiple locations. This constraint makes it challenging to maximise a customer’s lifetime value and ensure long-term retention of corporate accounts. The company also had issues entering foreign markets as they are unsure about the regulatory frameworks for business development and market understanding.

A Collaborative Effort and Strategic Partnerships
Through its participation in the GBU programme, MySingaporeDriver successfully established strategic connections with key ecosystem partners, including RHB Bank, CardUp, and CoSeClinic Group. These engagements provided the company with valuable commercial insights, financial guidance, and practical support to strengthen its regional expansion strategy.
The key benefits and outcomes achieved include:
- Enhanced understanding of market entry into Malaysia. Through discussions with CoSeClinic Group, MySingaporeDriver gained a clearer understanding of the legal, regulatory, and operational requirements for establishing a business presence in Malaysia. This included insights into company incorporation procedures, banking requirements, regulatory compliance, taxation considerations, and potential challenges that businesses commonly encounter when entering the Malaysian market.
- Improved financial readiness and cash flow planning. Engagement with RHB Bank and CardUp provided the company with practical guidance on financing options, cross-border banking solutions, and cash flow management strategies.
- Access to trusted business networks. The business matching sessions introduced MySingaporeDriver to reputable organisations such as ATC and Global Connect, which are capable of supporting different aspects of its expansion journey. These strategic connections provide the company with access to professional advice, financial services, business support, and potential collaborations, reducing the uncertainties typically associated with overseas expansion.
With the help of business advisor Mr Mike Krishnan, MySingaporeDriver had successfully incorporated and established a fully operational legal entity in Bangkok, with its service fulfilment logistics completely streamlined. This allows the company to replicate their premium, high-touch Singapore service standards seamlessly on the ground in Thailand. The Thailand expansion achieved a positive cash flow within just months of its initial launch, proving immediate profitability and minimising capital burn.
By establishing a dual-hub presence, MySingaporeDriver has also successfully clinched multiple large-scale corporate deals spanning across both Singapore and Thailand. This interconnected network has unlocked new, multi-city revenue streams from multinational clients who require a single, trusted ground transportation partner across Southeast Asia.
